Not a huge surprise; though I'm actually furthest from Kucinich on his foreign policy positions, where he is (as far as I can tell) pretty isolationist.

Myself, I've been very much influenced by the Washington Post piece in October about who is advising the front-runners on foreign policy. Clinton and McCain have easily the most heavyweight lists of experts, but Obama's list includes my former colleague Rob Malley and several others with whom I feel instinctively in sympathy - Samantha Power, Dick Clarke, Ivo Daalder. (The Edwards team seems surprisingly mil rather than pol in balance; perhaps they have been updated since?) It is of course wrong to assume that because X is advised by Y that X will share Y's views; but if Y is someone whose judgement I respect, and has chosen to support X, that counts for something too.

I've done the meme but can't claim to be as well-informed as you, and of course I want to heavily qualify too many of the position points. Context is often everything. The link to the Washington Post piece was appreciated - interesting to see Nile Gardner on Giuliani's team, as he was an admin assistant for a while where I used to work...

That's weird. I normally score very high Kucinich, Gravel next then the rest nearer to "meh". This one gives me:
82% Barack Obama
81% Mike Gravel
81% Dennis Kucinich
81% Chris Dodd
77% John Edwards
77% Hillary Clinton
77% Bill Richardson
76% Joe Biden
40% Rudy Giuliani
37% John McCain
31% Ron Paul
28% Mike Huckabee
27% Mitt Romney
21% Tom Tancredo
17% Fred Thompson

I suspect because the policy choices are different and there are less of them. Plus some of them didn't give an answer I liked at all. Still, I'd be happy Obama/Edwards, even happier with Obama/Kucinich. We'll see I guess.

There seems to be no place for centrism in America.

Interesting, you're the only person I've seen who has candidates 'mixed' - everyone else I've seen who's responded to this has a pile of Democrats on top and a pile of Republicans down below (even me - and I'm fairly Right-wing on things like free markets and the death penalty).

Actually have never heard of Gravel before but I definitely like him, again just judging from his website.

See my comment to Charlie Stross about this idiotic quiz. Given that, in fact, Giuliani's foreign-policy team consists of the people who couldn't get jobs with Dick Cheney because they're excessively crazy warmongers, I doubt very much that you actually prefer Giuliani out of all the Republicans.

Like you, I'm pretty impressed by Obama's foreign-policy outfit. They are of course comfortably inside the bipartisan consensus view in which, basically, the United States feels free to invade and rule anyone for any reason, but within that limitation, these are the genuinely decent ones. In an imperfect world, that sort of thing counts for a lot.

I didn't start out supporting Obama, but if (as is beginning to seem likely) we actually have a wave of Obamamania that takes the guy to the White House, I'll regard it as a good year.
