That Doctor Who spoiler, and Kingsley Amis
Those of you who care have been expressing outrage or satisfaction, depending, about the big news re next year's Doctor Who.

Come on folks, it's not a big deal. It's rather nice that the programme is able to explore both its recent roots (as with this story) and its more distant roots (as with School Reunion and Time Crash). I can't quite believe that some commentators seem to think this means The End Of Doctor Who As We Know It - that happened in 1966 when William Hartnell regenerated into Patrick Troughton!

In other news, I am baffled as to why my attempts to list my newly purchased copy of Spectrum IV, edited by Kingsley Amis and Robert Conquest, breaks my LibraryThing catalogue. I'm sure there is a good reason.

(By the way, I am in Macedonia for the rest of the week.)

I'm not flailing and running in circles preaching doom and gloom, but I don't think it's a good thing either. One of the series' strongpoints has always been flexibility and this inability to let go of a single companion (or really any companion as evidenced by the return of pretty much anybody who has been on the new series) is eventually going to keep it from being able to expand in different directions.

I can't say much given that my Mum is entirely of the opinion that the best part of Dr Who did end in 1966 ;)

Other than that, I mostly agree with mscongeniality.

Seriously? Oh dear...that's totally pathetic :( I'm not just saying that from personal preference (I'm hugely excited and pleased with the spoiler), but because it will tie up some loose ends in terms of this Doctor's characterisation and may provide some sort of 'emotional' resolution, which surely can only be viewed as a Very Good Thing.

Did you see that Verity Lambert died?

I was quite appalled yesterday evening when I had a look at the Irish News, and it listed Verity Lambert amongst the birthdays. I often criticise the Irish News amongst friends/family for its terrible editing (in regards to bad spelling, grammar, etc), but to list someone who is dead amongst 'today's birthdays' is something that (surely) should have been spotted and amended...

I don't think it's The End Of Doctor Who As We Know It, just that it means I probably won't enjoy series four nearly as much. And since I had doubts about it anyway because of Tate...bah.

I'm not enough of a Doctor Who fan to declare it The End of Doctor Who As We Know It, or really to care if it was. I just never really liked Rose, or the direction they went in with the Doctor/Rose relationship, and I thought that the end of s2 was a pretty good ending for that character and their arc, so when Rose returns its just means more of a character and dynamic I didn't really like, and possibly less Martha and Jack who I actually do like and want to see how their characters develop.

What everyone else said: it's not the END, but it is bloody annoying.

Got to say I don't care who shows up as I'm enjoying the doctor himself and the companions are just the foil - I did like Rose and i can't imagine how they are going to bring her back in an authentic and believable manner but having said that I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and wait and see.

As long as the stories themselves get away from being too earthbound and into the wider universe, I have no problem with Rose returning.
