24) Fables [1]: Legends in Exile, by Bill Willingham et al.

An impulse purchase in our local comics shop last weekend. But actually rather a neat story of characters from fairy tales living in contemporary Manhattan: Snow White and the Big Bad Wolf investigate the apparent murder of Rose Red, but it is a dark, very adult tale. New York is a bit fictional anyway, so to combine it with the exiles from the Land of Fable seems almost obvious once it has been done. I'll be looking out for the rest of this series.

I was given Fables book 1 for my birthday; since then I've found all manner of excuses to buy subsequent books (including book 6, just today). I've been very impressed with the quality of the work, but then it is a Vertigo piece so it's hardly surprising. All good stuff.

Ah, Fables, my absolute favorite comic though I'm behind so much right now, heh. I first picked it up because I'm easy when it comes to fairy tales retold, and this just hit the spot right. It just gets better from there, in my opinion. The third and sixth volumes are particular favorites of mine.

I strongly recommend you keep reading Fables! It build up very nicely as it goes along.

I have nine volumes of Fablesso far, plus 1001 Nights of Snowfall, and two volumes so far of Jack of Fables. And everything else by Bill Willingham I can get my hands on. He's one of those writers that I will automatically buy anything I see with their name on. If you haven't already got them, I really recommend his The Sandman Presents: Taller Tales collection of stories from the Sandman canon.

All unreservedly commended to you. You won't be disappointed.

The evil people at my local comic shop were giving away the first issue free a while ago. So far I've only got one of the later volumes out of the library, but what I've seen so far is fab.

I series that i have truly enjoyed, it is a good story that is clearly building to something.

The true test is when it reaches its Apex. Then we will see if it will continue being great, or if it stops.

I wasn't that impressed by book 1, but it got better as it went along. Very much comfort-reading.

In slight opposition to the other commenters, I continue to read them but Willingham's opinions on gender roles and real-world geopolitics become increasingly unpleasant and unignorable as the series continues.
